Apogee Journal cordially invites you to celebrate the words of activists, poets and proactive writers, on December 12th at 8pm at the Underground Lounge in Morningside Heights, Manhattan, NYC.  RSVP on Facebook.

Apogee and Our Word (Columbia University’s student group to support writers of color and cultural diversity) will host their first ever Open Mic Night on December 12th at the Underground Lounge.

Our Open Mic will be open to any School of the Arts students who have written work that deals with race, class, social issues, and related topics. The mission will be twofold: to provide a public forum to open up these complex discussions, and to promote submission to Apogee’s second issue, coming out in Spring 2013. This event will offer the opportunity to meet with fellow students in the School of the Arts, to read, perform, and hear about issues that many of us are very passionate about, and that affect us personally on a daily basis as artists and as members of society.

Food will be provided, and we encourage you to buy a few drinks at the bar, as the Underground is gracious enough to host us.

If you’re interested in reading, bring a piece that’s four minutes or shorter. We’ll have a sign up sheet there and it will be first come, first serve.

The reading will go on for one hour, from 8-9pm, but the celebrations will continue afterwards!
